The Commission’s mission is to responsibly secure a safe and reliable Willamette River drinking water supply for its communities.
Enhancing the river’s water quality to provide excellent drinking water to 400,000+ customers, in addition to meeting future water demands and increasing water resiliency.
In 2020, WSC began a partnership with the Willamette Intake Facilities (WIF) Commission to aid the development of systems and structures to support the foundation of the newly formed Commission. The Commission’s mission is to responsibly secure a safe and reliable Willamette River drinking water supply for its communities. The Commission is comprised of six entities: the Tualatin Valley Water District and the cities of Wilsonville, Sherwood, Tigard, Beaverton, and Hillsboro.
The Commission is responsible for the management and operation of the Willamette Intake Facilities (Intake Facilities). The Intake Facilities draw water from the Willamette River for treatment at the Willamette River Water Treatment Plant. Treated drinking water is currently delivered to 45,000 people in Wilsonville and Sherwood.
In the future, the Intake Facilities will also withdraw water for the Willamette Water Supply System that will be treated at its state-of-the-art facility and delivered to another 400,000 people. This will help meet future demand and offer security in the case of a large-scale emergency.
Since 2020, WSC has supported the new Commission in building its internal infrastructure – to solidify its mission, vision, and values; build its brand; and create key messaging. Most recently, WSC facilitated a series of five virtual workshops to introduce the WIF Commission and its mission to key stakeholders and engage them in discussions about opportunities to partner to enhance source water protection activities. Protecting our water sources is key to producing excellent drinking water quality. In 2024, a Source Water Protection Plan and parallel outreach plan will be submitted to the Board for approval.
